My aching feet...

I think I have my first pregnancy symptom...seriously tired arches. I guess I mentioned this in a previous post, but I blamed it on the shoes. Maybe it's more than that...I think I need to see what kind of cheap arch supports I can find at the drugstore, and soon! The last couple days it's been non-stop! Stretching my calves, foot massages, and doing nothing help somewhat, but it's really annoying!!

I should take a belly pic now, as we're going out to Cape Cod for the weekend and I'll miss the weekly shot. I think I've turned a corner this week and definitely have the classic shape of a pregnant belly. I don't really mind it. But, taking a picture would require standing up...not so appealing right now.

I went for an hour-long walk yesterday (feet=agony) and today went to a core-type class Bea taught. Cardio-wise I feel fine...but doing lunges, squats, things like that, I am really starting to cheat. Another thing that doesn't make sense...I've gained 15 or so pounds, but 3 years ago (and for a long time before that) I weighed about what I do now. So it seems like my body should've been able to adapt to the old weight, especially as it came on slowly, but not so much the case. Oh well...at almost 30 weeks I think I'm pretty convinced that I haven't really lost too much fitness, and in the homestretch I don't even stress about maybe slowing down. In fact, I am seriously looking forward to a few days of doing pretty much nothing. I'll bring my running stuff, but we'll see if I actually run.

It could very well be pregnancy related, but also running, especially with the new weight. I got posteior tibialis tendon disfunction when I was training for a marathon this past spring. It got so bad I could barely walk and I had to miss the race, despite having done 3 20 miler through clevleand blizzards! It is basically the collapsing of your arches. I switched to stability shoes and they took some getting used to, but helped a lot. I still have issues with it when I wear like cheap dress shoes to work. I got some PT stretches to do for it, which are basically calve stretched b/c the arch muscle is connected and what i have at least, it related to my calves being too tight causing issues elsewhere. it might be worth seeing a sports med doctor, they can do some simple tests to see if you have PTTD or Plantar F.

yeah, if it keeps up after the baby and weight are off, i will take it seriously. today they're better, but i'm wearing running shoes! i think i'll have to stick to good shoes for the next 10 weeks! and yeah, calf stretches make it feel MUCH better...and i heard rolling the arches over a frozen water bottle feels good too.

I hear ya on the feeling good cardio but not lunges/squats, etc. I'm the same. I think it has to do with the 'relaxin' hormone that makes lunges uncomfortable? A PT friend of mine actually told me not to do them (he said do nothing that is 'one-legged' b/c my hips aren't stable enough right now?) So I haven't even attempted them in a while. I'm gonna be *really* sore when I get back in the gym and start up my routine again after this baby comes!!
Have a nice weekend in Cape Cod!

Be careful, like momma simmons said, you have a lot of relaxin in your body and it is weakening the support system for your joints. That is not a good thing to mix with RA. Invest in some stability shoes to support the joints in your feet. Even if you don't use them for running, you are still on your feet a lot.
Enjoy your holiday!
