Fuck...

IVF drugs likely not going to be covered. Still trying to figure it out. Will we spend $5k + on this? I know people spend a lot more. But we don't have a lot more. And I don't know that it's worth it given the uncertain outcome. If we were guaranteed a kid I'm sure we'd do it. But...honestly. I question whether another kid would just be that much more stress. I might be too selfish to want another. Maybe this is just me protecting myself. I won't let myself cry about this yet. It's not over. It's just frustrating because my benefits say the drugs are 100% covered but the fine print that no one told me about apparently says only covered if given by the doctor. Um, I can't go to the doctor every day for 6 weeks to get stim shots and progesterone. My IVF nurse hadn't heard of this. Maybe there's a way around at least some of it...

Can your docs office submit for preapproval before you start the shots and state that they will be done at home by yourself. If you get approval in writing from your insurance company then it would be alot harder for them to deny it after they gave written approval. Just a thought.

Hmmm. This isn't something that I ran into. We spent $7-9K on drugs WITH 50% coverage. BUT, we were required to buy drugs from the Aetna Pharmacy, which from what I've heard, jacks up the price to ensure that they still make a profit. You might see if the doctor's office has any drugs that are leftover from other cycles that people have donated.

P.S. Plus, we had to use the max dosage of drugs, which is why everything was SO expensive.

It is so frustrating that insurance companies are truly dictating our lives. This is just not right. I really hope you are able to work something out. Even thought I don't comment a lot I am still out here. Hang in there.

This is awful. I hope that something works out. My favorite thing is the title. I hope someone has some wisdom above to help you out! Thinking of you Clare!

Hmmm, I'm not sure how to deal with the insurance issue since my didn't cover a penny of it but I do know there is financing available out there for this kind of stuff at reasonable rates. Your doctor's office should have the information on companies that can provide financing.

Also, since I was paying out of my pocket my doctor's office helped me out as much as they could. You should check. I actually didn't have to pay for lupron the first round and I never paid for bravelle or menopure because they either had samples or had unopened bottles from other patients.

Also, I've been holding onto my old drugs because I'm scared to get rid of them for fear of jinxing myself but I think I've got 2 bottles of bravelle, two half full bottles of lupron (not sure how to ship those since they need to be refrigerated but I'm sure there's some way) and some endometrium.
